SIDE PROJECTS

I have participated in the following side projects:

Beats of Rage

When 2003
Platforms PC
Tech Porting, DirectX
Languages C/C++
Contributions Senile Team
Description

Beats of Rage is a highly popular adaptation of one of the best scrolling beat'em-ups for the Sega Mega-Drive/Genesis: Streets of Rage. This game/engine was released in 2003 and has all the features of the original game and a complete editor. This game was made by my good friends Roel, Jeroen and Sander van Mastbergen (Senile Team). They did an excellent job and created a huge fandom due to the fact that anybody can create their own mods for the game engine.

I provided a Windows/DirectX port which incorporated an overall conversion to the Win32 threading/event-driven model, DirectDraw for grafix and DirectInput for full joy-stick support. Finally, sound support was incorporated by my good friend, Bas Vijfwinkel.

Also, I coded a WinAmp plug-in that can play BOR's own music files. You can download it here:

Simpy copy the DLL into the WinAmp directory (usually something like: C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins). The next time you launch WinAmp it will initialize the plug-in automatically.

Lejendary Adventures Online

When 2002 - 2003
Platforms PC
Tech Gameplay
Languages C++
Contributions Dreams Interactive
Description

Dreams Interactive was basically a group of friends that had embarked on a very ambitious project. They wanted to take Gary Gygax's new role-playing system called 'Lejendary Adventures' (as a successor of his earlier Advanced Dungeons & Dragons system), and adapt it into MMORPG version (Lejendary Adventure Online).

I worked with them for 9 months on a part-time basis, trying to help out with some of the gameplay elements. Working on this project gave me more insight in what skills I needed to develop further for doing game development professionally in the future.

When Dreams Interactive ran into financial troubles in 2003, they were forced to move back to Finland and sadly the project never made it out of the prototype phase.
